Ever since sir-mix-alot was telling everybody to buy alpines in the early 90's the false impression they are superior as stayed stronger than ever. Fact is you're paying for a name and usually for the price range you get wayyyy less features, outputs, eq settings, etc. What you do get is the royalty that comes with telling people you have a alpine... oooo ahhhhh and all that nonsense. There are many "underdogs" that have far better build quality and features for less money. I've owned several HU's in my time, including alpines. For the money, you can not beat a JVC. That is my opinion, not fact. Everyone has different taste and needs, fulfill your own. I will say that pretty much all stereos have become extremely gawdy and over-featured lately. Its getting very hard to buy something with elegant styling that doesn't look like something pooped out of a transformers ass.
